rank/file IT professionals -- I need to do a fun feature on
extreme customer complaints. With customer complaints now being
picked up and analyzed via social media, what kinds of really
extreme/outrageous complaints are being made? We envision a 'top
10' list, along with expert commentary about how companies are
strained by addressing even the most outrageous complaints while
attempting to deal with the legit ones. So this is two part
request: A list of outrageous complaints, and a quote or two
about how organizations are impacted. No attachments, please. No
follow-ups, please. I promise to read all pitches but can only
respond to those that are a good fit. I'm a freelancer. Contact:

32) Summary: South Carolina Give Tax Break to Amazon

Name: Phillip Britt (Heartland Institute Budget & Tax News)

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-19cf@helpareporter.com

Media Outlet: Heartland Institute Budget & Tax News

Deadline: 07:00 PM EST - 6 June

Query:

Looking for commentary/insight on item below. Due to tight
deadline, fee free to send comments via e-mail or we could set up
a quick phone interview. In mid-May, the South Carolina House
of Representatives reversed itself and voted for a tax break
aimed at attracting an Amazon distribution center in Cayce, just
outside the capital of Columbia. It would come in the form of a
five-year exemption to the company from collecting sales tax on
merchandise that passes through the center and goes out to South
Carolina customers. State officials estimate the break will cost
the state treasury $10 to 15 million. The vote was a significant
defeat for Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target and other
brick-and-mortar sellers who complained that their online rival
was being given an unfair advantage. South Carolina is the
latest front in an escalating nationwide battle over whether and
how states should seek to capture sales tax revenue generated by
e-commerce. Looking for comments from, lawmakers, and others on
if the state be handing out deals like this to huge corporations?
Why not for smaller competitors?

Objective: Join other celebrities to raise money for charities
as a "Celebrity Ambassador" (Michael J. Fox and Kelly Rowland

www.samaritansnyc.org/aboutus, a 501©3 not for profit
organization, at Cantor Fitzgerald's Charity Day 2011
http://www.cantor.com/CD on September 12, 2011. With the
celebrity, Samaritans could raise enough money to fund NYC's
24-Hour Suicide Prevention Hotline for one year! Cantor
Fitzgerald's Charity Day 2010 raised approximately $12 million
(their entire global revenues that day). Cantor prefers smaller
charities -- like Samaritans -- often based in the New York metro
area, where their donation can make a noticeable impact.
Samaritans' high impact program, the NYC Hotline, answered 69,000
calls last year providing emotional support to those who are
going through difficult times, depressed, in crisis or suicidal.
More people die in the US from suicide annually than from AIDS
and homicide combined, one in ten of NYC High School students
report attempting suicide, and this issue can touch anyone
including the celebrity community. Charity Day 2011
commemorates the 10th Anniversary of Cantor Fitzgerald losing 658
of their NYC employees on 9/11 raising money for charities to
help others like Samaritans. Date/Time/Place: o Monday,
September 12, 2011. Any two hours from 9-3p.m. o Cantor
Fitzgerald New York Office, The Trading Floors, 110 East 59th
Street Manhattan. o Join other Celebrity Ambassadors (Michael J.
Fox and Kelly Rowland were two of last year's) to raise donations
by "carrying out real trades on the phone with Cantor's financial
institutions alongside a licensed Cantor broker" on behalf of
Samaritans (whose representatives will attend
too). RSVP: Friday, June 7, 2011 Compensation: No
compensation provided. Celebrity has the potential to raise
enough money to fund New York City's Suicide Prevention Hotline
for a year! Makes a difference in people's
lives. http://www.samaritansnyc.org/aboutus www.samaritansnyc.org

Deadline: 05:00 PM EST - 8 June

Query:

I need insight from a professional stylist/fashion expert
(preferably someone with celebrity clients) for an article that
will be posted on a beauty/fashion website for women ages 18 to
34. The article focuses on how to take your clothes and
accessories from day to night during the summer and will need to
be specific to various body types: full-figured, bottom curvy,
athletic, top curvy and hourglass. Which warm-weather clothing
items (and accessories) are on trend and will transition from
work to an evening out for these body types? What about from a
casual day at the beach to a night on the town? What if the
evening event is casual and you're coming from work? How can you
use the same clothing items in different ways from day to night?
Focus has to be on summer items. Email responses to these
questions if you like so I can get a feel for your style, or send
me your contact info and availability and I'll be in touch to set
up a brief interview (ideally Tuesday, June 8, but depending on
your availability). Thanks very much.
